Distrobutions
Slackware
The best linux distrobution in my humble opinion. It is fast, stable and simple and that is no exaggeration. I tried many and have always gone back to Slackware in about 2 days max. Without a doubt, Pat is the man.
Suse Linux
This is the Linux that I would be using if I have to pick one for the enterprise. It has a lot of nice tools and comes with all the applications that you would ever need.
Red Hat Linux
The most popular distrobution.

Open Office
The best MS Office replacement I have found.
Firefox
The best web browser that I have found.
medit
A fast, lightweight, GTK based text editor.
aterm
A light weight and customizable terminal emulator. I use this one all the time.

Desktop and Window Managers
KDE
The desktop manager that I like the best. If I am not running Fluxbox with idesk, I am running KDE.
Fluxbox
This is the window manager I use. It is fast, stable and easy to configure.
idesk
If you want icons on your the desktop of your window manager. This is the application to try. It is Easy to configure and change.

Qmail Rocks
A set up for qmail to allow remote management for mail hosting. If you take the time to get this to work, it is a very good set up.

A very secure email server.
MySQL
